“Its really late now, where we are going to stay tonight” asked Amit. Help came from our co-passenger from the local bus we took to reach Turtuk. On our way the bus broke down(that story some other day), so we reached Turtuk late in evening. “We are looking for budget home stay in Turtuk”, then the guy weighed several options and directed us to Master’s HomeStay.

Master’s Homestay is a cozy little basic accommodation for tourists in Turtuk village, Nubra Valley, and we are going to be talking about this beautiful Home Stay in Turtuk where we stayed for 2 nights.

Rooms are cozy and basic, with attached washroom. He has option with shared washrooms as well. He has 3 total rooms, and 24×7 running cold water in the washroom. The bed is cozy and comfortable, the room was a little bit cold due to a nearby water stream. If you want shower, hot water is made available in bucket. The room costed us during October 1000 rupees per night including stay, breakfast and dinner.

He is a great cook, serves home grown fresh organic vegetarian meals. He also serves non-vegeterian meals on prior request. The food we had in Masters Homestay was amazing be it Roti-Omelette for breakfast or the Chicken curry prepared specially for us. Mohammad makes finger licking chicken curry which you should not miss.

The best part of our stay was the talks we had with Mohammad. Be it politics, education, computers or religion his thoughts were very modern and open. He wanted his children to study, so keeps them away from the homestay work. So that they can concentrate on one thing at a time. He helps you to buy home dried apricots/ walnuts in cheaper rates than shops. He also gives you a tour to see the natural grain grinding mill that runs in the village.

We love to stay in a home stay because in a home stay is to learn about the place, people and build a connection. Staying with him gives you an honest sneak peak into the village life. A non-commercialised home stay where you can feel the connection with the people and village of Turtuk. You can book Masters Homestay directly by calling Mohammad in the number: +919419709250.
